On Monday 25th August 2025 – The TAFEA, Vanuatu Primary Producers Authority (VPPA) Officer, Mr Alvan Natuoivi, accompanied by the Agriculture Development Officer for West Tanna, Mr George Lava, visited a champion Vegetable Farmer, Mr Tom Nakat, at Lounalapen Area, West Tanna.
During the visit, Mr Natuoivi officially registered Mr Nakat as a vegetable farmer under the VPPA Product Group. Mr Nakat has dedicated his farming business to vegetable production, carefully dividing his farm into 17 plots, each measuring 12 meters by 10 meters.
From the inspection, the officers observed impressive production across the 6 plots as shown in the table below.

Mr. Natuoivi confirmed the accuracy of these figures after reviewing Mr. Nakat’s Farm record book, which details daily production. He commended the farmer for keeping proper records, stressing that farm record book is an essential tool for running a farming business.
The TAFEA VPPA Officer also encouraged Mr. Nakat to continue expanding his farm, praising his dedication and commitment. He highlighted the importance of producing more vegetables to supply domestic markets at affordable price, helping to strengthen food security for local population.
Mr Nakat’s Farm stands as a shining example of successful and organized vegetable production in West Tanna, showcasing the potential of local farmers to contribute to Vanuatu Agricultural economic development.
